How did you find us?:
ad on Into the Inferno
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is He/She a Canon?: yes
Nationality: Fire Nation
Location: Ba Sing Se, Earth Kingdom
Alliance: The Avatar, of course
Is He/She a Bender?: Minor fire bender
Character's Name: Lady Ursa
Gender: Female
Age: 33
Height:5'9''
Appearance:
Ursa doesn't seem to be overtly tall; she's probably around five foot nine tops. She is built slender, so I'd put her weight at about 130 pounds or so. Ursa has very thick black hair that falls to about the center of her back. She keeps her hair in a loose pony tail now, rather than the style she kept while in the fire nation, sometimes she even wears her hair down.
Her eyes are golden. Her face seems ageless, even now. She has very drawn features that are shaped like her son's, rather than the over all 'pointed' set that Azula seems to have. Her complexion is over all very creamy, almost pale, a startling, but beautiful contrast to her hair and eyes. She stands tall, with her head raised, always, never hanging her head in shame, she is proud of who she is, whether she is proud of her nation or not.
She wears a light green shirt with light tan colored pants. The shirt itself is short sleeved, and it stops at her waist. The pants flare out a little at the bottom but are, other than that, tailored to her form. When it is chilly, or she feels like cloaking herself even better, she has a light brown robe that she can put over her outfit. The clothes are all fairly warn.
She still owns a single richly made outfit-a fan dancers’ dress. The cloth is blue silk with a green dragon embroidered into it. Its skirt is knee length and its slit up the thigh on both sides, to give the wearer freedom of movement. Other than that, it is skin tight. The tail of the dragon rests at the hem on the left side, it wraps around the dress so that the head is on the chest from the same side. If one found it among her things though, they would probably assume she had stolen it. Stored with it are twin bladed fans. The fans are both green with blue dragons embroidered into the silk.
History:
Ursa was raised in the capital city of the Fire Nation. She had a very easy childhood, with very few responsibilities. Most of the time, she got what she wanted, so she could be considered to have been a spoiled child. When she was very young, just after she had shown the first signs of being a Fire Bender a marriage was arranged between her and Prince Ozai, she had no knowledge of this.
As she progressed as a fire bender, her parents hired the most prestigious tutors to train her in the fire bending arts. She would never be a great master-but she did have some skill in fire bending – likely due to her bloodlines, after all Roku’s blood runs in her veins on her mother’s side.
On her sixteenth birthday, Ursa’s mother sat down to speak with her alone. Ursa went along with it, not knowing what her mother wanted. That was when her mother told her that she was to marry the prince in three days time. Ursa was stunned and outraged. She didn’t understand how her parents could have done that to her without even telling her what they were planning – but, in her eyes the worst part was that she had never even met the young prince before. She was terrified of what was going to happen-but it was too late to say no – too late to back out. So three days later she wedded Ozai.
A year passed without notice, without anything of note to mark the time. Then she discovered that she was pregnant with her first child. Ursa was overjoyed with the knowledge of the child to come. The nine months passed without issue and prince Zuko was born.
About six months later, Ursa received word from her mother - her father was dying. She visited him only once in his final month...and has regretted not going to see him more often ever since. She mourned her loss quietly, telling no one of her painful loss.
Her relationship with Ozai continued to grow more strained now that Zuko was born; it seemed that the child was somehow driving a wedge between husband and wife due to the very different parenting ideas of the two. Ursa's being gentler to Ozai's rough school of 'honor'.
Over a year later, Ursa conceived her second child. The pregnancy went off, yet again without a problem, and the child was born healthy and strong, a female this time, and thus Azula came to be.
As the children grew up, Ozai and Ursa became more separate, until it came to the point that Ursa rarely spent anytime with Ozai that he wasn't sleeping through. She woke up before he did, and went to bed later, purposefully making it harder for him to corner her. She spent her free time mostly with her son, neglecting to spend the same amount of time with her daughter...which she also regrets to a very real extent.
As time passed she got a distinct impression that something was very wrong with her daughter-but she couldn't do much about it by that time. And then that fateful night came. As Ursa heard Azula taunting Zuko, she knew that something had happened.
That night she slipped into Azulon's quarters and ended his life with a very careful injection of nothing but air into his blood stream. Then she went to Zuko's room and told him good bye. Vanishing into the night she paused only to visit her mother in the city, to pick up her dancer's dress and the fans that had been made to match it. She had a notion for her new life as she ran away, and this was the only way to fulfill it.
One day, she intended to return to her home to see her son, but not until this had died down, not until Ozai had ceased to become a risk to her freedom if she entered the city, she doubted that he would waste much time to hunt her down, but if she were found in the city, there was no doubt that he would do everything he could to take her down.
Ursa got onto a ship that night, a ship that took her to the earth kingdom where she set out into the second phase of her life: an entertainer.
Ursa spent a few days in the earth kingdom, just biding her time and getting her bearings on the area, and who best to advertise her "product" to. As an entertainer she would dance and perform for those who could pay her fee. Of course, performing was all that she would do, because she would, of course keep her honor. Her product was strict entertainment, and nothing more, certainly nothing physical.
Slowly she established herself as an entertainer, and she did pretty well. Certainly not well enough to draw the attentions of the fire nation, but well enough to survive on her earnings alone.
She managed this for around two years, keeping a fairly low profile...And then she drew the attention of a very nasty figure. This figure tracked her movements for a time, before cornering her. Once he had cornered her he attacked her viciously, not only beating her but attacking her in other ways as well.
It took her six months to recuperate from the attack, and even then she had lost her taste for entertainment. She fled the city that she had been working in, vanishing deeper into the Earth Kingdom. She settled in a small village. She works at a tavern there, cooking food, making drinks, and serving customers. Its not an easy life, but it is a fairly safe one.
More recently, she has had to leave that village, because of word that the Fire Nation was approaching, she’d had no choice if she wanted to remain free. This time, instead of moving to another small village, she has gone to Ba Sing Se, she works in a tea shop there, bidding her time, and saving money. She wants to find her son, so she’s saving up money for supplies and the like. If she has her way, within six months she will leave Ba Sing Se, and begin her search.
Inventory:
-Twin Bladed Fans
-Fan Dancers dress
-some tea packets
-a tea pot
-some cups
-some cooking and eating utensils
-Average earth kingdom clothing
-A floor mat to sit on
-A sleeping mat
Personality:
Ursa is not what you would expect from any one from the fire nation, much less the person who married Ozai and gave birth to the demon Azula. Ursa doesn't get angry easy...but when she does, run and hide, especially if you are the one that she is angry at. She is very protective of those who she cares about.
She cared very much for her eldest child, her son Zuko, but she thought that her daughter Azula was a monster, even when she was young. She was very protective of her son. She really, truly loved Ozai...at least until he banished her, and now, she hates and fears him.
Firm but kind, Ursa doesn’t stand for any nonsense. She won’t leave something half done if it can be helped at all. Determined is another good word for describing Ursa, she doesn’t give up, no matter what. In part, that is why she has survived so long despite the fire nation’s take over, and her being banished. She doesn’t just give up, she keeps trying no matter how hopeless it seems. Ursa is a proud woman, and she does not regret the things that she has had to do, whether she likes them or not. She knows they were necessary, and therefore, refuses to be ashamed over them.
Ursa tries not to focus too much on hope now, because she knows that hope won’t help her survive another day…but she still has hope, no matter how much she tires to ignore it. As much as she tries to ignore it, there are times she relies entirely on hope to get her through, to keep her moving, desperate hope that somehow, things will be alright someday.
Strengths:
-She is a very caring individual.
-She is very protective of those she loves
-Ursa can deal with most problems with a clear head
Weaknesses:
-Dangle a chance to see Zuko in front of her, and there is no telling what she will do.
-She is scared of most men she does not know.
-Sometimes she can be over-protective
Sample Roleplay:
Ursa opened her eyes to find herself staring at the ceiling, again. It was the third time this week that she had dreamt of Zuko and Iroh. Every night, the dreams were a little worse and a lot less gentle. She knew that she was over reacting, but after seeing those posters on the window, she couldn't help but worry.
Her son, her pride and joy...What had she missed since she had left? What had happened to turn him from Heir-Apparent to wanted criminal? Who had scarred him that way? Of course, no one she had over heard speaking about it really knew what had happened...of course they didn't. Though, one story that she had heard, was that Ozai had attacked the younger boy.
Ursa could only hope that that particular story was false and yet she couldn't quite make herself believe that it was impossible...but how...how would Zuko have provoked his own father into attacking him that way? Yes, Ozai could be cruel and rough handed...but she didn't like to believe that he was capable of doing that to his own son without real provocation...but again, she couldn't come up with anything the boy could have done to even remotely explain Ozai's actions. And how in the world was Iroh, of all people, tied into all of this?
These questions and far, far more buzzed about in Ursa's head as she sat up and rolled off of the sleeping mat, suddenly very certain that she wouldn't be able to go back to sleep before dawn. She made her way into the kitchen and began heating water she had drawn the night before for tea.
When she was done she settled down on the floor in the main room, lighting only one candle to lighten the darkness around her. She stared into the shadows as she sipped at her tea.
