Chantrea saw the hesitation, but made no outward motions to show that she saw it. She didn't think that Mai would very much appreciate it if Chantrea showed her observations. She smiled, truly glad that Mai had decided to stay with her, if only for a few more minutes. "I'm sorry for bothering you." She sounded so sincere. Looking down at the glass of tea she was given, she mumbled her thanks and looked into the steaming, still liquid. The same image she'd seen so many times. . . she sighed softly and flicked the cup once to disrupt the stillness and get rid of the disturbing picture.

Mai gave a slight nod. "That's okay, I guess." Mai said quietly and impassively, taking her tea when the lady came back and thanking the waitress. Mai sipped her tea silently, sitting straight backed and looking around the store, her golden eyes flickering from subject to subject. The tea was good... Mai would even go as far to say the comment that it was even better than Fire Nation tea.

"May I ask you something, miss?" Chantrea asked suddenly, looking down into her tea after blowing the steam away and allowing it to cool for a few moments before drinking some. The sweetness from the honey added just enough flavor to the otherwise bland texture of the liquid. She waited for Mai's permission to ask her the troubling question.

Mai sipped her own tea silently, carefully placing it on the table. Honey and Tea. Mai could honestly admit that she didn't predict this. A blood stained fight for survival maybe, but not sipping tea with a water bender in a earth kingdom tea shop. The whole thing made her slightly antsy. It didn't show however. The only thing that was showing was Mais hesitation to answer the question. "Yes."

((Ehhhhh?! Sorry, I didn't know you'd posted so long ago!! Gomen!))
Chantrea remained in her silent state for only a few moments after she'd been given permission to ask what was on her mind. She stared into the murky, yet somehow clear depths of the steaming tea again. Finally, she spoke. "I've been having an odd feeling lately, to be honest. Do you know anything about a meteor? Perhaps comet is the better word for it. I feel like something bad is going to happen from it's appearance, but I don't know when it's going to arrive. It's frightening to know little about something so large."

((Meep. I took two days. Ack.))
Mai froze though it barely showed, she showed no emotion except for that freezing. She suddenly took another long sip from her tea, then set it on the table. After a moment of thinking, the golden topaz eyes cut up to Chantera. She started at her for a long moment, then back down to her tea again. "Sozins comet." Mai muttered, looking at the steam from her cup rise.

So she DID know something about it. From the reaction, however microscopic, it was enough to confirm Chantrea's fears about the glimpsed future that was going to unfold. The silver haired lady nodded lightly, mind thick with burning thoughts and troubling feelings. "Can you. . . Are you able to tell me anything about it? I assume that it's arrival will mark a special occasion." Chantrea was worried. She didn't think that Mai was the type to react to a question like that unless there was a valid reason behind it.

Mai kept her eyes glued to her tea, the steam forming different shapes as it danced through the air, the motion fluid and graceful. Mais topaz eyes followed the little movements, thoughts buzzing through her mind so fast she couldn't barely hear them at all, making the effect almost sound like the background babble of whenever you walk into a cafeteria or public event. The buzzing noise grew until it swallowed up all her senses. Mai set down her tea very slowly, gingerly almost, and laced her fingers in her lap.
Suddenly, Mais lips moved quickly, the sound almost a murmur, though it was understandable. Her eyes kept to her cup, never moving, frozen solid gold.
"Sozin's Comet is a comet that passes close to the world every hundred years. The comet passes close enough that Firebenders are able to draw power from it as they normally do the sun, greatly increasing their powers. It can enhance Firebending by a hundred times, making the firebenders more powerful, having an extreme advantage over other benders. Fire Lord Sozin used the comet to drastically raise his nation's power and deliver a crippling first strike in the Fire Nation's war of world conquest. This first strike resulted in the presumed extinction of the Air Nomads. Sozin was the first to try to use it for his benefit, thus the name Sozin's Comet. It increased the Firebenders' power by a hundred times, giving them the power required to exterminate the Fire Nation's enemies. The Comet would make the Fire Lord stronger than he can even imagine.
It has been a hundred years since the extinction of the Air Nomads. Sozins Comet is coming. At the end of the summer, the war will be over for good. The only bad news for every nation other than the Fire Nation is that they will all collapse under the Fire Lord, once and for all. The only hope the other nations have is the Avatar. If you don't believe you will all fall, and Harmony will never be achieved again. The Fire Nation will rule. This is what your... question... means. Sozins Comet is coming. To survive, you have to prepare. And maybe even then, you may perish.
That answers your question." Mai finished quietly, her lips stopped and pressed together ever so slightly, and her golden eyes shot up to Chanteras face. Mai picked up the tea cup and took a sip, setting it gently back down again on the table.
