Is He/She a Canon?: No
[Nationality: : Born on Kishu, an Island off the Southernmost point of the Fire Kingdom Mainland…
Location: On a ship escaping the island
Alliance: Anyone against the Fire Nation
Is He/She a Bender?: Water bender
Character's Name:Avaleen
Gender:Female
Age:15
Height:5' 5" 124 pounds
Appearance: Avaleen’s eyes are a luminous aquamarine. They have often been compared to the blue-green ocean that surrounds the small Island of Kuchi. Depending on her mood, they can change from a serene cerulean surrounded by green to a near turquoise when she enacts her ability to bend.
Her hair is a light auburn: the color of the sun as it descends the heavens to disappear below the horizon. Avy’s wavy hair hangs just below her shoulder blades and she usually uses small pieces of leather to tie them into two bundles on either side of her head. Unfortunately, this particular physical feature tends to draw unwanted attention in her direction.
Years of performing her given chores and swimming in the ocean's swift strong currents have aided in creating her lithe and toned five foot five frame. This graceful and dexterous young girl is often found agilely moving through the woods with her bow secured to her back. Lately, Avy has noticed her body changing..growing more… well rounded in certain areas and it has made her feel even more self-conscious, which in turn has caused an increase in those annoying "klutzy moments."
This young water bender has an oval face with high cheekbones and a bow shaped mouth. Her eyes, unlike many of those around her, are more open and rounded. Across the bridge of her petite nose and upper cheeks are a smattering of freckles or “demon spots” as some of the children teasingly taunt; mimicking aloud their parents.. Living on the Fire Nation Island, she wears a sarong type garment in a lighter shade of red than the residents of the homeland. This comfortable dress comes to just below her mid thigh. Avy wears two small circles of silver in her ears and an ivory marot tooth necklace which she made herself. Two hand carved bands made from quarseal ribs, hang about her neck which in the past belonged to her mother’s mother. Ayumi was a well known healer of the Northern Water Tribe and Avy hopes to one day meet her grandmother. On her feet, the Water Bender wears a pair of woven reamleaf sandals which are standard for most of the Islands' inhabitants. A thick leather strap holds her bow comfortably on her back when she goes off to practice.
Unknown to all but her mother and the midwife at Avaleen’s birth, she bears a strange marking on right hip which looks very much like a black lotus.
History: A small select group of men from the Fire Nation in the guise of the local tribe entered a small Northern Water village to do reconnaissance. They were under orders to find and capture any possible Water benders General Liang three of his men were just leaving one of the wigwams’ that belonged to a r when a very pretty young woman pushed the leather flap aside. The bright blue of her eyes locked onto Hiroto’s and for a moment it seemed as if time had frozen. With lightening speed, he quickly grabbed the young woman and placed hand over her mouth before she could warn the rest of the village. Instead of releasing Akitaka when they were a safe distance away from the camp, the leader lifted her into their boat and took her back with him to the Fire Nation.
General Hiroto Liang took the young woman to one of his estates on the Isle of Kuchi where he kept her as his concubine. After numerous attempts to run away, Akitaka resigned herself to her new position. The seventeen year old girl would often be found in the evening walking slowly along the pebbled shore: her crystal azure eyes focused intently on the Northern sky. On the third month of her captivity, Kita, as she was called by her people, reached up behind her neck and removed the small carved bone necklace given to her by the man she’d one day hoped to marry. Tears slipped slowly down her cheeks as she stared at the small love token while her other hand lay upon her stomach where a small child grew. Akitaka had lived in hope that Hiroto would become bored with her company or her betrothed and family would come to her rescue but she now knew that once the General found out about the coming child he would not let her go… She’d heard rumors of the General’s wife who had some connection to the royal family but Kita had never actually laid eyes on her and wondered what would happen when she learned of her husband’s illegitimate child? “Arrat “ the ebony haired young woman choked out while rubbing the tears from her damp cheeks.
A full moon gleamed across the rippling ocean as a small flame haired infant took her first breath. From her child’s first cry, the new mother became resolved to love and care for the small girl. Disappointed at hearing his new child was a female, the General refused to waste his time with what he considered an insignificant offspring. Avy's early childhood was spent in her mother’s company. The two would play in the ocean's tide or take long walks through the forest and along the banks of the nearby crystalline stream. The young girl only caught small glimpses of her “father” when he honored her mother with a visit. As soon as he arrived on the island, the small child would be hustled away to her room.
Unfortunately, one of Avaleen’s first lessons at her new school was realizing what the islanders REALLY thought of her and her mother. She was constantly teased and tormented by the other students. Nothing hurt worse than hearing from strangers that she was the bastard child of a Fire Warrior and that her mother was nothing worse than a captive ….slave. “Half-breed! Sparky, Water whelp…..go home…go back to where you belong !!!” Their malicious taunts ringing in her ears sent the little girl racing to her secret spot within the deep wood. There, with head resting upon her knees, she cried. Once the tears were angrily wiped on her sleeve, she rose wearily to her feet and trudged back toward the only home she'd ever known. The young girl's red rimmed eyes met her mother's sad blue before slowly climbing up into the older woman’s lap. Avy laid her head against Kita’s shoulder in search of comfort and after.. a few moments of silence, the young mother began telling her daughter about the Northern water tribe…her Grandparents and Uncles.
The redhead began spending all her free time hidden away, dreaming about the day that they would be rescued. One fall day, at the age of twelve, Avy began skipping through the small waves which danced to and fro across the pebbled beach. The redhead was just about to leave when she saw a small boy being tugged into the deeper water. Reacting instinctively, the young girl raised her hand in panic and the waves were redirected around the child. She gasped in surprise as she reached out and pulled the small boy to safety. It took some time before she realized that not only was she different looking on the outside, there was something strange within…
Her mother looked quite stunned when the young girl told her what had occurred. In a hushed voice, made husky with fear, the older woman held her daughter close to her chest and pleaded with her to keep what had happened a secret.
Avaleen would often sneak off to play with her bending talent. She also began saving money and supplies away in the hopes that one day soon they would return to Northern Water Tribe. Yes...soon...soon she would have everything in place. She was more than ready!!! Excitement raced through her as she anticipated meeting her grandparents, uncles and most importantly...taking her mother home.
Inventory:
Avy is always seen wearing two small silver earrings and an ivory marot tooth necklace which she made herself. Even today, her greatest of treasures are the two quarseal ribs that hang about her neck that once belonged to her grandmother Ayumi. The intricately carved long bow carried across her back has become almost another appendage to this Water bender.
Personality:This Water bender is shy and wary of others. She does not want to give anyone a chance to taunt her. Avy loves to learn and enjoys all the mysteries the world has to offer. In her mind, the trees, animals, plants, and streams are her playground which are meant to be explored. She is uncannily truthful but unfortunately often does so without tact. If there is someone who is ill or needs care, she moves quickly to help, often forgetting her own safety along the way. Avaleen has a easy going attitude unless put on the spot or singled out in front of an audience. She will do whatever it takes to leave such a situation and left with no option... her temper will flare. Like a cornered cat, she will come out with claws bared and hissing. Although she abhors unnecessary violence, this Water bender will attack when cornered or provoked.
The pretty redhead wants above all things to gain her mother’s freedom and return to the Northern Water Tribe. There, the half breed child hopes to find acceptance and belonging. She wants to learn what she can of her gift, as her mother calls it. Slowly and painstakingly, Avy has been stashing money away in the hopes of making that dream come true. This single desire is what she focuses while maintaining her daily duties and the ridicule of others. “Soon…soon..” her heart cries out as she seeks the northernmost point on sea’s horizon. “We’ll be going home, Mum…soon…I can just feel it!”
Strengths:
Avy cares a great deal about those closest to her and will go to great lengths to see that they are happy and protected. She works relentlessly at all the tasks that have been set before her while aiming for perfection. One of her most notable character traits is that she honors her word. This Water bender does not make promises very often for she is determined to do whatever it takes to see it to completion.
Her keen eye and natural dexterity have aided in her ability to hit nearly any target with her bow. She has been taught some basic Judo and techniques with a bo during her Fire Nation classes. Lastly, Avy makes a point to be respectful to those she meets. Some see this as a rather simplistic element in one so young but….it shows far more self restraint than many her age.
Weaknesses: Avy is extremely uncomfortable around strangers. If she can not manipulate herself away from engaging with those she doesn’t know, she usually ends up stuttering or klutzily bumping, falling or sliding about.
Unfortunately, she has little instruction on water bending so all too often her attempts are much like gambling; all too often things do not go as she plans them. All too often, Avaleen will flee or shut herself away to avoid a conflict with those she cares about.
The most critical weakness for the Water bender is her fear of fire. Due to an accident caused by Niagi Fenri when she was thirteen. He had been teasing her by sending flames on either side of her. With each flare, he would move it closer and closer to her body: reveling in her jumping back and forth. One of the flames eventually came far too close and caught hold of her hip length hair. If it hadn’t been for the quick mindedness of another student, she would have lost more than just her long locks. Yes, she takes great care around the this particular element.
