Character's Name: General Hiroto Liang
Gender: Male
Age:42
Height:6’ 1” 230 lbs

Hair: His hair is black as coal and equally as shiny. He keeps it tied back in a long pony tail that starts at crown of his head and falls to just below his shoulder blades. A few wispy tendrils fall over his forehead and across his eyes. The general is quite shrewd in his choice of coiffeur for he knows that these bits of hair keep his opponents from looking clearly into his eyes which during battle can all too often reveal a warrior’s intended action.
Build: Hiroto’s six foot one height often draws attention. He works diligently to keep his body tone and muscular. Frequently in the morning hours, the military tactician will sweep through the training camps searching for a thingyy young man to challenge. These small engagements send a clear message to his underlings that it is he who remains in control and that only the best will be permitted into his contingent.
Overall Appearance: The General’s square chin and angled cheeks make him seem as if his face had been chiseled from stone. He has a long nose and thin firmly set lips. Rarely will anyone see a glimmer of emotion flicker to the surface. The small moustache and goatee aide in his overall autocratic appearance. Hiroto’s everyday clothing contain various shades of red and gold made from silk or satins depending upon the occasion . Most of the time he is seen wearing Fire Nation armor befitting his rank with a scimitar swinging on his right hip and a katana strapped across his back. He moves effortlessly in all that he does; quiet yet with decisive determination.
History: While the Fire Kingdom was growing more powerful under Azulan’s reign, a small boy waged a war of a different kind…one of survival. Hiroto was one of five children born to a local woman who sold her body for a living. Her third child was unlike the others for he had the greatest of desires to become something better than a common street rat living off the pittance garbage others left behind. No, amidst the small uprisings, the thirteen year old met a passing soldier who showed him how to hold a blade. Of course not long after the lesson, the poor man lay in a pool of his own blood. Hiroto, dressed in the dead warrior’s garb and with the tool of his release grasped tightly in his hand, moved along with the army. His skills grew quickly dogged due to long hours of practice and dogged determination. None of the other men in his brigade ever questioned his presence and if they did , feared to make it known. During one exceedingly bloody battle, Hiroto, then twenty-two, led a few men to the top of a nearby knoll and decimated the local earth benders who were pelting them with stones from a protected peak. In the midst of the squirmish, he had unknowingly saved Iroh's son from being crushed. From that moment, the beggar took a tremendous leap upward in status as well as financially. He began living near the palace and training with the same trainer as Iroh and Ozai. The young bastard child of a small town sleeper soon grew to be a dedicated and extremely effective soldier. On one occasion When Iroh was home from the war, he taught his son and Hiroto how to play Pai Sho. The young man instantly fell in love with the strategic game and brought those lessons onto the battle field.
Eventually in recognition to his long and faithful service, the royal family presented the thirty -one year old fighter with a second cousin of the present Lady. The shrewd warrior did not hesitate but quickly wed Fumiko; a somewhat plain young woman of significant wealth. Eleven months later, while he was leading the takeover of a small earth settlement, his wife gave birth to his son Jaron. Hiroto rarely saw the boy for his life as a soldier often kept him focused on the Fire Kingdom’s insurgence but when he was able to the older man began instructing the child in the ways of combat.
Only a few days before Jaron’s third birthday, Hiroto was in the midst of a Southern water tribe seeking information for the Fire Lord’s future plans when he was discovered by a tribeswoman. The warrior felt a strange tug within when he beheld her beautiful azure eyes. With the swiftness for which he’d been hailed, he grabbed the woman-child and took her to a private residence on the isolated Isle of Kushi. There he held the girl captive and made her his concubine. After a few useless attempts at escape, Hiroto waited for Aktiatka to realize the fruitlessness of her actions. He was pleased when the seventeen year old resigned herself to her present position upon learning of her impending motherhood. The older man waited anxiously over the next nine months for what he hoped would be another son but upon learning that the infant was girl, gave the midwife the orders to take the child away. All too often unwanted female children were left outside alone in the wilderness to meet their deaths but at hearing the pleading in his captive’s voice, Hiro’s mouth curved ever the slightest upward. For it was in that moment that he'd gained a great piece upon the Pai Sho board. The General quickly realized that the tiny infant was all he required to keep the Water nation woman obedient. He ordered the mark of the lotus be placed upon the little one's hip. The small black flower was to be a visual reminder for Kita so that she would always remember how he held Avelen’s life in his hands.Over the years, he has enjoyed the benefits of his position and reveled in the success of his attacks. He has recently noticed his son’s eyes following the pretty princess about. The older man is pleased by this simple sign of interest for it shows promise for an even closer tie to the throne.
Inventory:His greatest belonging is his concubine. Hiroto sees his mother’s whoring and subsequent children as her disregard for anything but her selfish desires. In controlling Kita, he feels he has a way of living out the revenge against the woman who never spent the smallest of her time to care for him. He dresses with elegant cloths when at court and in full samurai armor benefiting his superior military position. The two items he caries with great care are his two blades; scimitar and katana. He has a great fondness for playing Pi Sho and keeps in his home a very ornate board made of ebony, ivory and gold.
Personality:The General is a very level headed and controlled individual who uses any advantage to his benefit. He plans with great care taking into consideration every possible contingent and outcome before meticulously setting his tactics into action. Every move and word he speaks is deliberate. He does not waste time on frivolity but on accomplishing his goal with the least cost to himself. This former street rat knows when it is best to remain silent and when to press for opportunity. To date, his snatching Akitaka has been the only action he’s taken without his rigid and controlled thought.
The elder soldier by all means respects his Lord and follows orders to the letter. Over the past few years, with Zuko’s burning and subsequent banishment, he has taken notice of an all too familiar spark within the young princess' eye. The focus and determination which he’d learned in the streets he now recognizes in the young girl. Hiroto continues his duties while monitoring the power fluctuations within the palace.
Strengths: The General is a very focused , shrewd and intelligent man with well developed survival skills. He has fair fire bending skills along with extensive military training in the use of numerous weapons Hiroto’s greatest talent lies with the curved tip scimitar and katana.
Weaknesses: Hiroto’s greatest weakness is his self seeking fulfillment. He is a man who only looks at what he can gain for himself and can care less for the cost to others. He fears open mockery and notations by others to his impoverished birth not to mention being the bastard child of a street sleeper. Unknown to many, the warrior has an extreme fear of heights.
Sample Roleplay: secondary char but given for insight into character disposition
The wind blew a long ebony pony tail behind a sturdy middle aged man peering down over the inner courtyard of the Palace. The soldier stood tall, his chocolate eyes sweeping over the ornate gardens noting the swift turns, flips and yellow-orange flames that the princess was sending toward her much older instructor. Without the slightest of movements, Hiroto took note of the soft brushing sound crossing the open tiled patio.
“What is it, Udo?” His deep baritone voice cut the silence.
Eyes widening, the slim manservant gave a small shake of his head before quickly replying, “ I still do not know how you can tell that it is me, General.”
“It's quite simple… you drag your left foot when you walk.” Hiroto paused for a moment before continuing. “ Is there a problem? My son and the other fire benders are in position?”
“Oh yes sir!! They should be setting your plan into motion as we speak. “ the young man seriously shifted from one foot to the other knowing that his next word would not please the military leader.
“Why are you here then Udo?" He asked while turning about to look directly into the eyes of the somewhat scrawny man.
“Ahh…it seems ..well we are still searching but…” The underling mumbled his anxiety easily seen. “It seems that Avelen is missing. We have some men combing the upper mountain areas but….it is feared that she may have slipped onto the ship when it docked for some supplies…” The small man’s voice ended in a squeak as Hiroto’s hand grasped the front of the messenger’s silk knee length burgundy jacket.
“Why wasn’t I told immediately?” the general said in a sharp cutting whisper.
“The men wanted to be sure she wasn’t just out running about the coast as she often does before wasting your time Sir….” Udo choked out while trying to pull more air into his lungs.
The two stood there for a few moments in this position before Hiroto released the fabric and moved to pick up his scimitar. “It seems my ship will be leaving a bit early. See that you send an air ship to the landing site to inform Jaron. Tell him to keep the girl there until I come for her. Well? Go..” He dismissed the man and slung his ivory handled katana across his back.
Once the frightened man had hastily made his escape through the paper sliding door, the general murmured to himself,” What have you been up to Akitaka?”
