Is He/She a Canon?: No
Nationality: Earth Kingdom
Location: Earth Kingdom
Alliance: Whoever she sees as good
Is He/She a Bender?: Non-bender
Character's Name: Meili
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Height: 5'7
Appearance: Most of Meili’s appearance seems to come from her father and his nation, unlike her sisters who look more like their mother. She is around 5’7 and very thin. She’s not lanky though, she did inherit her mother’s poise. Her skin is tan with a peachy tint to it and her eyes are a vibrant green like her father’s, also being very round in shape. Meili’s nose is long and turns up a little at the end and her lips are thin. Her hair is auburn and long. She ties many pieces back but the majority falls past her shoulders and her bangs are always in her face.
A short dress, golden-brown brown in color, fits her snugly and falls just above her knees. It’s sleeves end at her elbow so her forearms are left bare. Over that a kind of pale fern green jacket is worn, hanging down about mid-shin. This has no sleeve, instead coming to a slight point at the shoulders. A thin, beige strip of cloth is wrapped around her waist numerous times to fit her better, and it also has her small coin purse tied to it. Meili’s shoes are tall, brown boots that have straps up the front, stopping just below her knee.
History: Meili was born to an Earth Kingdom trader and Southern Water Tribe woman. Her father traveled over many parts of his homeland and the Southern Tribe because there was a market for his goods. He was known for being reliable and fair, and developed many connections to get supplies most in demand. As he frequented the water tribe more he gained a relationship with a young man, who eventually introduced him to his sister. Attraction wasn’t immediate and since the trader couldn’t stay for very long periods of time the man and woman did not have many opportunities to get to know one another. He fell for her, though, and soon she followed suite.
Two daughters were born before Meili. For a few years the girls lived with their mother in the Southern tribe. Meili would go long periods without seeing her father and became bored in the cold, icy landscape. She wanted to see the things her father had told her about in one of his visits. At the age of seven she got her wish and her mother decided to leave the tribe with her husband and live with his mother, just outside of Makapu village. The old woman was a bit eccentric and in her younger days had worked as a healer specializing in acupuncture. The art of knowing where to place the needles in the body held Meili’s interest and less than a year later her grandmother was teaching her. She got to see her father more, too, and began traveling with him around the Earth Kingdom. He was growing older and didn’t want to make such long trips as often.
Meili continued learning from her grandmother, the only one in her family she couldn’t get annoyed at. With her father being home more and her sisters never going anywhere Meili was tired of being around them all the time. Her and her grandmother began going on small trips overnight, traveling a little ways from their home to get outside for a time. Her grandmother showed Meili different plants and the qualities they possessed. The majority of the girls learning revolved around healing, with a few poisons thrown in for fun. The woman could tell Meili, who was now seventeen, all kinds of stories. Meili doubted some of them, for her grandmother was known for over embellishing at times, but she enjoyed them just the same.
More and more news traveled of the Fire Nation’s takeovers. Luckily, Makapu had remained unnoticed and the family prayed it would stay that way. The village wasn’t very large and didn’t boast too many resources the invaders may want. Despite the threat that the Fire Nation posed, in her mother’s eyes anyway, Meili wanted to travel. By this point her father had taken to hiring other, younger men to travel for him and they split the profits. She wanted to get out just for the sake of getting out. Her grandmother volunteered to take her granddaughter out and Meili’s parents agreed, after some convincing. Neither brought much in the way of supplies, wanting to travel light. Grandmother had a keen sense of direction even without a map and she always seemed able to take them in the right direction. Their trip was only supposed to take a few months, and consisted mostly of them camping outside. Meili loved the outdoors and became very at ease around her grandmother. The people they did encounter didn’t bother much with them, one or two wanting to know why they chose to be out like they were.
One night Meili awoke with a start. She had tossed and turned on her mat for a long time but she had felt her grandmother. Now, the woman’s soft snore was no more, and when Meili turned to look for her she was nowhere to be found. Their fire was out and cold and her bag was still next to her own mat, now empty. Her first instinct was panic, a million thoughts at what could have possibly happened running through her head. She had started searching almost immediately, looking for any signs of where her grandmother could have gotten. But there was nothing. Eventually Meili had to sleep but it was fitful. The next day she quickly picked up their things and tried looking again. Still, she found nothing and the one farmer that was traveling along the road hadn’t seen anyone either. Meili was distressed and didn’t know what to do. Some part of her ordered her to return home but she couldn’t make her body do it. She didn’t want to, and she couldn’t just leave on the chance she found her lost family member.
Inventory: A small cloth case holds a few assorted needle thin knives. They are round and have a very small diameter but the metal is formed in such a way that they are strong. They are all about the same length, running from her wrist to fingertips. The needles are less traditional, they way her grandmother showed her. A few of them are dipped in poisons for defense, but they require her getting close to stick into a body. They’re designed to paralyze for different lengths of time.
Personality: Meili is a relaxed girl. She doesn’t over think things nor agonizes over what has happened to her. There was only one case she felt any level of panic, and that too was overcome in short time. She does feel emotions strongly but keeps them from influencing her thought as much as possible. Often times she’ll stop what she’s doing and take a breath to evaluate her situation. Meili tries to recognize her limitations as much as possible but if she’s got herself in overhead she’s not quick to work out of it.
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Sample Roleplay: Meili prodded the small fire before her with a long stick, a few embers falling out and rolling on the dirt before dieing out. The girl’s legs were pulled close to her chest as she leaned forward to perform this little task, chin resting on one knee. She watched the subtle changes in the flame and tossed the stick aside. It wasn’t quite dark yet; the last of the suns rays could be seen through the sparse collection of trees around her. She wrapped her arms around her legs and let out a sigh and her lips pouted at the thought of the coming night.
Stupid rain. Meili thought with dissatisfaction. It had rained three days straight and had made the days unpleasant to say the least. Over the course of just a few weeks Meili had become opposed to inns and other places she usually had the option of spending the night in. Despite a lack of cash flow she almost always had some person or another offering her food or a place for the night. She had stopped asking about her grandmother by now because of the questions that came with it. Where was the rest of her family? Did she need help getting back to them? Despite the fact that Meili wasn’t too sure which direction her home was, she really didn’t want to find it. They would have to be getting worried by now and it made her feel sorry. But being out here left her feeling better than helping at home.
She stretched her arms out above her head and fell back on her sleeping mat. The sky was changing from the warm colors of the day to the cool colors of the night. The few tree branches and leaves were silhouetted against the brightness as Meili looked up. On arm rested on her stomach and another lay at her side. The fire gave of it’s warmth against her legs and she wiggled her toes in her boots. She was tires, falling asleep shouldn’t be a problem tonight.

Strengths:
- Her knowledge of acupuncture, though still growing, has become quite refined. Of course practice lately has dwindled Meili is still quite capable.
- Ever mindful of her surrondings, Meili watches people like a hawk. Especially now that she's on her own she thinks it even more prudent she has a visual understanding of surrondings at all times.
Weaknesses:
- Perhaps she should have paid more attention to her grandmother, because now Meili finds herself fairly lost in the Earth Kingdom's terrain. She knows the baiscs about a compass, thought she doesn't have one, and other such information. Anything more advance is lost to her.
