Is He/She a Bender?: Yes, Earth Bender, Later a MetalBender
Character's Name: Toph Bei Fong
Gender: Female
Age: 12
Height:
Appearance:
Toph starts off with a strong body build, and short black hair. Her eyes are a glossy blue/green- giving her blindness. Her skin is non too pale, but it isn't dark, like the water-tribes. She wear a green under-shirt and capris, with a tan flapping vest-robe. Around her waist, is a black thick belt, often replaced by the Underground EarthBending Champion Belt. Her wear is that of regular EarthBenders. Along with the wrist and ankle pieces of clothing. Toph wears no shoes, so that she can be close to the ground, allowing her to feel the vibrations. To top it off, in her hair, Toph wears some sort of Earth Kingdom ear-muffs.
History:
Toph is the one and only daughter of the wealthy Bei Fong family of Gaoling. Although born into a rich family, Toph was born blind, and was sheltered as a delicate little flower by her parents, who believed her blindness made her fragile and incapable of being self-suffition. Her parents, being the smoothering caring parents that they were, went to extreme measures to protect her, which including hiding her birth from the rest of the world. Toph resented her parents' treatment, and therefore grew up hard and rebellious.
At the tender age of six, she ran away from home and ended up in a cave inhabited by Badgermoles. There, she learned the sacred art of EarthBending, and because they understood each other, being that they were both blind, she learned by imitating their movements. Toph learned to "see" through the use of her Earthbending, feeling people and other objects through their vibrations, which she feels through the ground with her bare feet.
Although her oblivious father, Lao Bei Fong, later hired the Earthbender Master Yu to instruct her, he didn't teach her anything other than beginner moves, unaware that she had already become master level at the art. She became such a powerful bender that she secretly entered underground Earthbending tournaments as the Blind Bandit, and was actually the champion of the Earth Rumble Six.
Inventory:
Personality:
Toph is fiercely independent. She can be sarcastic, direct, brutally frank, and a confrontational type of girl. She appears to have a carefree and adventurous personality, and she is very tomboyish in the way she acts and dresses, - the opposite of the delicate doll her parents see her as. However, Toph loves battling, and at times violence. She takes great pride in her Earthbending skills, which have surpassed all expectations of her useless trained Master Yu. She always appears willing to prove that she is as strong as anyone, blind or not.
Toph insists that she can "carry her own weight", and often mistakes a simple friendly gesture as an act of pity for her blindness. This is because of the way she was raised, her parents smoothering her, watching her, thinking she was not sel-sufficent. Toph is brutally honest when criticizing others, even when they would rather her lie about things. She is vocal about her opinions on others regardless of status, an example being the Avatar. She shows no respect for them. Nor for elders. Her occasional spoiled attitude may be related to her being the only child of one of the richest families in the Earth Kingdom. Thanks to her time as a competitor and champion of the Earthbending tournaments, she is an expert in verbally taunting and insulting her opponents. Under her tough exterior, Toph, being unable to see what she looks like, doesn't feel the need to fuss over her appearance. However, despite her many quirks, Toph has shown that she is a quick learner, and can show courage and loyalty. On top of this, Toph can show a bit of compromise to help others who are close to her.
One of Toph's most obvious characteristic traits involves her personal health. She is accustomed to lying on the ground, and walking everywhere barefoot leaving her soles quite soiled. This is common, however, as most Earthbenders walk barefoot, likely so that their body is directly touching the earth at all times. This goes doubly for Toph, being that the ground and vibrations are the only way she is able to 'see'. Also, she has been seen belching loudly, picking her nose, breaking wind, spitting, and is usually covered in dirt.
Toph is well-educated in the manners and bearings of high society--she merely consciously and consistently chooses to ignore them. An ongoing joke concerning Toph's blindness is her lack of ability to discern anything that has been written or drawn. Lastly, Toph gets extremely irritable with lack of sleep.
Strengths: MetalBending [future], Master EarthBender
Weaknesses: Sight, Her Raw Attitude

Sample Roleplay:
A hot afternoon stumbled upon the palace that the Bei Fong family lived in. The couple's only child was outside on the bridge that crossed over a small, shallow pond. The water glimmered with a touch of wind and sun. But none of this matter to Toph. Being blind was not the only reason though. As the sun beat down on her 'delicate' skin, as referred to by her parents, Toph sat, deep in thought. Toph was in a flash-back of her past. There she only imagined what it looked like, but she matched the scene to the unmistakeable sounds of that day. The day that changed her life.
Toph sat in the darkness of the cave. It was that day. When she was six. When she ran away. She sat there, crying. Upset. Her parents, the town. They all seemed to mock her because she couldn't see. What was wrong with her. Why couldn't she see what they saw. Why couldn't they see she was the same. Why...
Suddenly the floor of the cave began to rumble. And the walls collapsed. Through them came giant badgermoles. They, not that Toph could have seem them, didn't seem mad, or particulary happy to see her. They just were puzzled. Or so she thought. Toph was gone for days, each and every momment tormenting her parents, who refused to be optimisitc. In those days, the badgermoles tought Toph the ways of EarthBending. It was like they could understand each other's pain. They both were blind, and through this, Toph began to see. Not the way other's did, but just as effective.
A tear rolled down Toph's face as she flipped to the scene of which she thought was her homecoming. She realized how much her missing must have hurt her parents. Suddenly the tears were replaced by anger. It was their fault to begin with. They drove her too it. Treating her like she was some helpless baby. Toph may have had them to thank, for driving her to the badgermoles, but all the same the gestures hurt. Toph was stronger than they might ever realize. Or accept.
Finally, Toph snapped out of the flashback trance, and noticed how long she had been out here. She no longer felt the warmth of the ball of fire in the sky. It must have been hours since she moved. Getting up, Toph made her way to the palace of her home. Another day. Another nite. Hiding herself. From her parents. Everyday. All the time.
Could they understand if they knew?
