Location: Water Tribe Seas
Alliance: Water Tribes
Is He/She a Bender?: Water Bender
Character's Name: Kailan Ryomora
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Height: 5'2"
Appearance:
Kailan is one of the few runaways that successfully evaded the Fire Nation’s sweeps of the area. Thus, since his journey to the Northern Water Tribes, he had to begin wearing clothing to dissuade interest from him. He carries along his slightly dull brown parka with fur trimmings. His boots are rather leather-like and rather thin, however still keep his feet dry. He wears a long brown overcoat with a hood. This mostly covers his Water Tribe clothing.
Kailan’s eyes are that of a glistening purple which seems to sparkle when he is in deep thought. He is rather short for a male his age, most girls taller than him by a few inches. His height is around 5’2”. His black hair runs down a good portion of his face as well as his neck. Its rather spiky in a sense.
History:
Kailan was born in the Southern Water Tribes before the assault of the Fire Nation. He lived only with his mother named Vaira who loved him to the core. He remembered during his childhood that his mother taught him the basics of water bending and later more techniques she knew. Even though he was born in the Water Tribes, Kailan was actually scared of the water. This was due to the fact that he almost had drowned in the nearby ocean when he decided to go out and try to swim. The currents were so rough that day, he hardly could keep his head above water. His mother quickly realized that he was missing and found out from neighbors that he had gone down to the ocean. She rescued him with some water bending of her own, making him promise never to leave without telling her again. He was only a mere six years old during this incident.
It was years later that a terrible tragedy would befall Kailan. How ironic that it wouldn’t be him leaving the next time. The Fire Nation attacked and with each assault, more and more people were taken captive. He was fifteen when his mother was taken from him. His mother, along with a group of Water Benders worked to their limits to keep the Fire Nation at bay, however they were soon overwhelmed and captured. Kailan was fighting along with his mother when they were overrun. His mother pushed him into a nearby alcove before shutting it with snow. The last thing he remembered was the kiss she gave him on the cheek and the bracelet she ripped off her wrist and thrust into his hand.
He tried to keep quiet while he lay still in the cold and dark shelter. He could hear the screams of people being taken away as the muffled voices reverberated through his mind. As soon as the voices were gone, he broke down and cried, watching as his tears turned to ice as they fell. He ran his fingers along the bracelet as he looked at it. It was silver with a crescent moon dangling from it. It appeared to have some water in it. There was a silver star that seemed to be the stopper for it; however he didn’t want to touch it.
Emerging from the alcove by using his own bending to clear the entrance, he soon collapsed to the ground to see the area he once lived in burning and melting. Smoke billowed into the air as a sign the Fire Nation had won. He watched as the large vehicles left with prisoners no doubt. Wandering into the tents and other structures, he found no signs of anyone. The occasional remains of something he remembered, however nothing else. The teenage boy now was on his own.
With that he remembered his mother telling him of the Northern Water Tribes. He prayed that they had not yet been devoured as well by the hungry Fire Nation. It took him almost a year of finding merchant ships and those still friendly to the Water Tribes to get to the Northern Water Tribes. He journeyed through wastelands, tundra, and the seas, however he was eventually caught by a roaming patrol of Fire Nation soldiers. They adorned different armor than that of those he had seen before. It was as if they were of a different detachment...maybe not even the military, although they all knew how to bend...and extremely well. He stood no chance at all as they quickly incapacitated him in a revolving wheel of heat. After a year of traveling...look where he found himself. Trying to escape fate.
Inventory: His mother’s crescent moon bracelet.
Personality:
Since his lonely days of being away from social contact with other people, he tends to be rather clingy to people that he does meet. He fears that he will be separated once again from people that are his friends or family and be alone again. He was alone for nearly an entire year while traveling to the Northern Water Tribes. He tends to keep gifts from friends and cherish them with his life, even if they are menial items. This isn't to say that his dominant personality that he shows all the time makes someone feel comfortable around him.
On the outside is a cold exterior of a young boy who had lost almost everything to him. While deep inside he may enjoy company of others due to all of the losses he has had, he doesn't show it. He is often snippy to other people and sometimes down right silent. Giving many a 'cold shoulder' if he doesn't want to hear something. He keeps his real feelings locked away and hidden for fear that someone will see it as a weakness. Whenever someone mentions his bracelet, he becomes slightly irritated and won't even talk about it.
Sometimes he rushes into situations without thinking them through. This can land him in a bit of trouble for himself, however it’s all in his best interest of trying to stay alive. Its something he has had to do his entire life since he left. Adapting to survive. It was hard for him to really trust anyone but himself anymore.
Strengths:
Kailan is an adept Water Bender with some arts from the Southern Water Tribes. This is not to say he hasn’t made his own style of fighting though. He tends to use the Water to create criss-crossing slices to overwhelm opponents as well as use icy particles to freeze opponents in their place. He can hardly use healing, however knows only a few basic techniques, none of which would help him considerably if someone was greatly injured. He is determined to always do what he sees fit is right.
Weaknesses:
He tends to jump into situations sometimes without thinking, which usually lands him in trouble. While it is all in good faith, it tends to create more trouble than help sometimes. He has a hard time being alone now, after he had re-established social contact and constantly needs to be with someone even if he doesn't show that he welcomes their company. Kailan also hates to draw attention to himself and especially dislikes someone who is constantly bothering him. He can be a little hotheaded sometimes.
