The sky was overcast, gray instead of blue, thunder rolling in the distance along with the sound of rain pummeling the ground and splashing in puddles. The sun hadn't been out and it was rather depressing to some people, though to others it wasn't gloomy... it was nice. The heat was extreme - even though it was winter, the heat was still in the seventies and eighties fahrenheit-wise. People stayed inside when the rainy days came, closing the blinds and trying to make fun of board games or straying inside the tea shops for a warm drink after the freezing rain.
Mai peered out from under her 'shelter', an umbrella, gray eyes scanning her surroundings, being the only person walking or daring to venture out in the area. Mai wrinkled her nose slightly and pulled the umbrella down again, hearing the comforting sound of the rain pelting the ground and puddles along with her own feet splashing along almost silently with the rain pouring in mini waterfalls off her umbrella. Mai pulled her hair, tightening the two separate sections of her hair tied with ribbons the color of her own hair, her outfit usual besides her Earth Kingdom attire. Besides, it wasn't like she could go marching around in a Fire Nation outfit unless she wanted Earth Kingdom soldiers to pummel her with pebbles (that she could easily defeat anyhow, but it was still annoying to have to stop and waste time).
The air was cold and still, chilly and finally not humid. The humidity felt like something was strangling her. The chilly air calmed her, and though goosebumps rose on her moonlight colored skin, it was better than the heat beating down on her. She never got sun burnt, but she couldn't understand peoples love for the heat. Mai liked the cold... she was used to it. Maybe not physical cold - no, that was too comforting. But the cold looks of her mother, her father treating her as if an emotionless doll... Mai had emotions, but didn't choose to show them. After all, mother always said, we had fathers political career to think about.
Sometimes Mai wondered if her mother even cared the slightest bit about her.
Shaking her head, she cleared it of all thoughts of that stupid, horrible woman, moving on to something... well, not pleasant to think about, but it was better than her mother. What day was it anyway? Mai didn't know the date. All she knew that it had been around three weeks since she'd seen Kichiro. Around that time. Not much had happened. Traveling around the Earth Nation non stop, thinking she was going one way and finding she'd been mistaken and had gotten herself lost. Stopped for tea and food every once and a while, trying to find water so she could get back to the Fire Nation and the empty, boring palace and her room. Her mother too and slightly annoying little brother, but she really did miss him. Her mother, not so much.
And then, her thoughts, for about the millionth time strayed to Ignis. She wondered about him. Did he care that she was gone? Did he remember her? Was he back in the Fire Nation? Was Serenity safe? Was he with her? Was everything alright? Did her mother try to kill him yet? She only wondered, the answers obviously unknown. And then the last question. Did he have another girlfriend? Mai flinched, and pushed that thought out of her mind. Her heart ached at the thought, but she couldn't think of it... no, she couldn't... it would be unethical... if he didn't love her, fine, she could get over it, eventually... she wished he did, but it wasn't her choice. She willed the pain that had came with the question away, and though it barely worked, it became slightly numb. Heh, story of her life.
Mai continued down the path, lost in her thoughts. She heard a twig crack and immediately felt the knives and blades between her fingers, and her dropped into a fighting stance and looked around sharply. It wasn't an animal, she knew that much. She knew animals crept up on her all the time and they had a slightly different note when something snapped, and once she turned, she'd hear the frightened scampering of the animal running away. But this thing, whatever it was or whoever it was, didn't run. Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"I know you're there. Show yourself." Mai ordered in her usual bored and slightly raspy tone.
OOC: For anyone who still comes here! So yeah, open to awkwardness?
