(OOC: This is a post to have some understanding of who my character is andher motivations)
Sashaying down the black sandy beach, a red haired teen giggled as the water carried her along the white foamy crest of a wave. Avy glanced upward at the azure sky where a few puffy clouds inched slowly Southward. The young girl gave a long drawn out sigh and gracefully turned her palms downward toward the blue-green waters that held her aloft. The wave of water sank gradually into the porous granules that had at one time been molten lava which flowed from the top of Mount Fei'ru. Unfortunately, the sun was nearing its peak which signaled the time for her to hasten home.
Avy inhaled deeply and closed her eyes to take one last joyful moment to smell of the dainty yellow dainden root blossoms that grew at the edge of the wood before hustling to pick up her bow by the strap and swing it across her body. She let out a muffled groan and began racing through the woods back toward the impressive structure surrounded by a large wall of artfully designed creatures carved into obsidian. “ huff huff..huff..“ the girl’s breath matched her steps as she wove her way up past the thirty foot dragon and into the outer section of her “father’s” island estate. There she stepped quickly past Tai Pei, the gardener , who was caring for the lily pads within a fish laden pond .
“You are late, Missy. You best go through the back door…” the old man snorted, his dark eyes crinkling as he held his outright laughter within.
Avy gave the man a respectful bow and a wink before altering her steps slightly to step quickly down the small path to the back of the large a framed building. Blowing a wayward strand of golden red hair from her nose, she took the steps into the kitchen area two at a time. “Please don’t be there ..please don’t be there….“ she muttered under her breath as the wooden door creaked open and she came face to face with Mai Ling, the cook.
Though the older woman was petite of frame, she was still quite intimidating especially with the hue knife she used for chopping vegetables in her hand.
“Late again, Avy?” Mai Ling said with a disgruntled shake of her head. “One day girl, your father will have enough of your wild ways and send you away to the mainland.” she warned and finished with a grunt. “You’re luck amazes even me, child. The General came to see your mother today so your dance instructor was told to wait until he departed. “
“Yes!” Avy chirped out in relief before putting on a more shamefaced expression and giving the Cook a respectful bow. “I mean..yes Mam. I will be certain pay far more attention to the time in the future, Mai Ling.”
“Sure you will..sure you will..” Her lips turned upward on the corners of her mouth ever so slightly. “Well? Go on!! Best go up and practice your dance.”
“Right..Dance! “ She said almost absentmindedly as her thoughts strayed to ways of getting a small glimpse of her father before he left.
Slipping around the table filled with all sorts of sea food and vegetables, Avy strode purposely around the corner and up the large ornately carved wood stairs. She made her way down the hallway to her room and had just clasped her on the frame to slide the door open when she turned to set her blue green eyes on the door at the very end of the hall. The red head bit her bottom lip before hesitantly and with great care making her way to the large double doors that were her mother’s quarters. Cautiously, she looked about before leaning her right ear against the dark mahogany door.
“PLEASE.Hirioto!!! You can not send my daughter away! She is all that I have in this world…” Her mother’s voice pleaded followed by a small sob.
“SILENCE woman! I am all you have in this world. Now if you had given me a son things would have been very different.” he started before his angry steps thudded across the room. “There has been some interest in her by the royal family. They have heard of the girl with fire hair and ocean eyes and wish to see her so I am making a gift of her to them. Who knows what favor I will earn by show of generosity. “
“Please ..I beg you..do not send her alone…I ..send me with her as well. Avy is still young and ..”
“Enough!! It is done,. We will not speak of it again. As to you leaving…THAT will NEVER happen, my flower. You belong to ME!! Do not ever forget that.” he spat out lowly before moving hurriedly to the door and pausing. “You have two days in which to have her made ready. See that she is dressed appropriately for her presentation to the Fire Lord.”
Avy was frozen, her heart thumping so loudly in her ears in fear at what she’d just heard that if she hadn’t felt the turning of the knob beneath her finger tips, she would have found herself face to face with her father; the very man whom she despised above all others. With a quick jerk, she spun to the right and slipped behind a nearby tapestry. Peaking out from behind her small refuge, she watched the door swing open and the dark-haired man dressed in Military regalia stride purposefully down the hall. Her mother’s weeping sent a spark of anger into the water bender’s eyes.
“ I HATE you…hate ..hate ..” Avy choked out, her fist turning white as she gripped the gloriously woven Phoenix tapestry with all her might. Her eyes were sharp like daggers as she watched his retreating form. Once the General had departed, the flame haired girl stumbled into her mother’s room .
“Momma?” Her voice shook as she made her way to her Mother’s side. Flinging her arms about the older woman’s shoulders, Avy clung tight. “I ..I..it will be all right momma. We were going to leave in two weeks on Jang’s fishing boat. We’ll …we’ll just leave earlier. Yeah that’s it. Early. I’ll go to the d..d.docks and …and find Jang. He can take us tomorrow..” The young girl drifted off as her mother pulled her tighter to her chest.
“ No, Avy..sweetheart…you will have to go alone. “ Kita whispered her voice husky with emotion.
The redhead jerked back and her eyes widening in shock. “But Mamma..I can’t …I WON”T leave you!! I’ll ..I’ll just tell him I won’t go!” She spat out while angrily brushing a crystalline tear from her cheek. “HE can’t tell me what to do! I HATE HIM!!” her voice rose while her body began rocking slightly back and forth.
“Hush sweetheart and listen..please.” The chestnut haired woman pleaded softly while reaching out to run her palm against her only child’s cheek. “I know it isn’t what we planned…and believe me, I don’t want you to leave but we have no choice. Once you are in the Palace it will be impossible for you to leave. “
“But we had it all planned Mamma!! We thought of everything and..” the young girl butted in .
“Oh Avaleen, “ Kita started with a sigh her light blue eyes lovingly meeting her daughter’s angry glare, “It’s time for you to learn that life doesn’t always go according to plans..no matter how well they are put together. Right now we need to get you back to my family. Once you are there, you can bring them back here for me. See ..it’s just a slight change to our arrangements“
The teen pressed her lips together and gave a small nod. “I‘ll be as quick as I can and bring them right back Mamma. “
“Tonight a ship leaves for the Earth Kingdom…or so your father just revealed. It seems there is trouble brewing between the two Kingdoms though why I do not know. Once you make land, you need to flee the ship quickly Take the money we have saved and buy a passage on another vessel that will take you North toward the Northern Tribes. Tell those you meet that you are Hatsui Isgah’s Grand-daughter. They will see that you are taken safely to their home..for it is the way of our people. “ Pulling a small nearly white ring of carved ebony from her hand, Kita slipped it onto the middle finger of Avaleen’s right hand. “This was given to me by my grandmother. My father will know…he will take good care of you sweetheart.”
Looking down at the ostentatiously woven crimson rug on the floor, the water bender choked out. “Mamma…I ..I’m afraid. I’m afraid I won’t see you again. What if my leaving..makes him angry and he ..hurts you? “
A long pale hand ran soothingly over the young girl’s flame like hair. “He won’t . We will make it look like you planned this without me. That you are just a disobedient child who went in search of adventure. Of course I think he might believe that ..don’t’ you?” her mother gave a small laugh to try and lighten her child’s heart.
Avy looked up at her mother with slightly pink cheeks. They both knew she tended to hide away from her duties in the world of dreams. “Yes ..I ..” she started and then just gave a dimpled grin followed by a slow lowering of her head in assent.
Placing a finger beneath her daughter’s chin, Kita lifted it upward. “We have a great deal to do my love in a small amount of time. First ..we need to make you blend in with the rest of the passengers on the boat.” her mother paused and reached beneath her bed for a sack that lay hidden there. “We will have to use squib ink and make your hair black…then…” she licked her lips and continued. “..make you look more like a young Fire Kingdom boy.”
“BOY?!!” Avy squeaked. “B BB ..But Mamma…I...!!!” The young girl’s words were quickly halted as she was hustled back to the bathing rooms.
